SLS - selective laser sintering

Selective laser sintering, SLS, is used in situations where the function and rigidity of the prototype are important. By selecting the right material, the flexibility, rigidity and resistance to ageing can all be tailor made for your part. SLS is the best choice when you need your product to be made in a durable material. SLS is a free form manufacturing method which uses your CAD file directly to create the product without the need for a mould. 
Different types of post treatment can be then used, for example, to make design models. In such cases, the parts are finished and coated so that they are as close to the final product as possible. We can also add different surface structures, graphics, prints or colours. SLS is just one of our rapid prototyping / additive manufacturing / 3D printing options.

SLS - technical data

The machine has chambers which are filled with very fine grain powder. Between these chambers is a building platform which gradually lowers. For each layer, a new layer of material is applied on top. A CO2 laser sinters the desired areas of the material layer by layer according to the information in the CAD file. Unsintered material around the part act as a support structure during the process. Once the process is completed, the parts are removed from the bed and brushed or blasted clean of unsintered material. Finally, agreed post treatment is done on the parts, e.g. finishing, blasting and painting.

Tolerance: min ± 0.2 mm plus ± 0.25% of dimensions. Smaller tolerances upon agreement.
The minimum X/Y/Z axis wall thickness is 0.6 mm.
There is a risk of increased tolerances in the case of cutted and bonded parts.
